Electrical engineer salaries are at a record high in the United States, according to a new study by Bloomberg News.
The survey found the median salary for an electrical engineer in the US is $86,600.
That compares to a median salary of $59,800 for an engineer in China in 2017, according the report, published Wednesday.
The median salary in China was $64,300 in 2017.
In 2018, the median wage in China is projected to be $69,100.
The average salary in 2018 in the USA was $58,600, according Bloomberg.
China is the world’s second-largest market for electrical engineers, after the United Kingdom, according a report by the International Federation of Mechanical Engineers.
That market is expected to grow in 2020, according research by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
“I would say we’re in the middle of an explosion in the market, and I think there’s a lot of room for it,” said Paul M. Miller, senior vice president and research director for the IFCA.
The IFCE report, titled “The Top 25 Highest-Paid Fields in the World,” shows electrical engineering has a median pay of $79,600 in 2018.
That’s a 26% increase from the median $65,400 pay of electrical engineers in 2017 for an average annual salary of about $57,500 in 2018, according data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In addition, the average annual pay for an electrician in China has grown by more than 40% in the past five years.
“There are a lot more jobs in the U to be had, and people are willing to take those jobs and put in the effort to make them,” Miller said.
“So I think it’s going to be really interesting to see what happens to the overall market.”
